ABSTRACT
This study looked into the formation of parties in the late Joseon dynasty and their political and academic characteristics, and analyzed the books recommended by the major scholars in each party. Under the Confucian order of that time, the recommended books of each party are not far from the range of Confucian scriptures and Neo-Confucian books from theoretical aspects. However, with considerable differences in political positions and academic background between the Noron and other parties, including the Soron, the Namin, and the Bugin, there was also a difference in books recommended by each party. However, such difference was subtle, reflecting political confrontation and alienation, and academic and local characteristics, rather than fundamental, and evidenced the influence of their political and academic position.
