AB - This study identified whether wooden printing blocks were published by seowons(서원) in Gyeongnam(경남) province, listed on Nupango(「鏤板考」) and analyzed their characteristics. In this research, only the wooden printing blocks almost certainly published by seowons were analyzed.
To prove their publication in seowons, this study examined the publications connected with wooden printing blocks and relevant documents. The result shows that five of nineteen titles listed in Nupango are sure to be published in seowons: Nammyeong-seonsaeng munjib(南冥先生文集), Ijonrok(彛尊錄), Haman Jo-ssi sipchung sillok (咸安趙氏十忠實錄), Eogye-seonsaeng jib (漁溪先生集), and Guam- seonsaeng jib (龜巖先生集). Three titles among them belonged to the subclass of a personal anthology in the Class of Collection of works and two were categorized into a biography in the Class of History. All authors or the subjects of these works were the people shrined by the seowons which published those titles or their descendents. So they were all directly or indirectly related to the people worshipped by the related seowons. These five titles of wooden printing blocks have been used for publishing nine editions. Each of three editions had been respectively published in the early 16th and 17th centuries, and the late 17th century. Five of them were the first editions and four were the later editions.
