AB - Soogi was in charge of correcting the errors of the New Carved Goryeo Tripitaka, also known as Palman Daejanggyeong, the Eighty-Thousand Tripitaka. Soogi’s corrections were included not only in Gyojeong byeollok, but also in many Buddhist sutras of Tripitaka. The corrections were written in sentences at the end of the volume, and the brief records of correction followed the text to be corrected in the middle of the volume. Nonetheless, an independent research on Soogi has not been carried out due to the lack of records on him. In this research, Soogi’s family line has been studied, and the records of correction written in sentences were compared with those from Gyojeong byeollok. Major findings are as follows:First, Soogi was a first or second cousin of Lee Gyu-bo's wife and later recorded in the family registry as Yu Sung-dan’s grandson or son. Second, in Gyojeong byeollok, Soogi used the term “Gukbon (woodblock-printed book of the Goryeo)” than "Hyangbon" in order to emphasize Goryeo’s independence and cultural identity even in the times of international turmoil. Third, 69 items of corrected records written in sentences were found in the Tripitaka, and 24 of them were not included in Gyojeong byoullok. Finally, the record of correction in the type of prefaces engraved from Bunsa Daejangdogam in 1244 need to be further studied.
