A Study on the Process of Publishing Sonwon-kyebo-kiryak King Yeongjo’s 3rd Year Edition

ABSTRACT

This article is a study on the process orders of Sonwon-kyebo-kiryak Youngjo’s 2nd Year Edition and 3rd Year Edition. The 2nd Year Edition began on the beginning of Nobember, 1726 and was completed on the beginning of December, about 1 month, modifying and changing 2 leaves without another epilog. It was published for presenting different glorious name for 3 queens. The 3rd Year Edition began on October 5, 1727 and was completed on November 26, 1727, about 40 days modifying and changing 2 leaves without another epilog. It was published in commemoration of finishing Karye(嘉禮). The whole process of publishing includes the following procedures: 1) making a recommendation of publishing and King’s approval, 2) establishing Kyojeongcheong(校正廳), 3) electing chief executives, 4) making of administrative rules and regulations, 5) gathering genealogical records, 6) building and mending of facilities, 7) the first draft and review, 8) the second draft and review, 9) precise transcription for the king, 10) presenting precise transcription books to the king, 11) making the final transcription to be attached to the wood blocks, 12) engraving on the wood blocks, 13) the printing, 14) dedicating finished books to the king, 15) cleaning used papers, 16) the abolition of Kyojeongcheong(校正廳), in sequence. It was performed changing a few wood blocks or Bokong(補孔) in the Jasonrok(子孫錄).
