ABSTRACT

This study has been perrormed to finds out the anti-colonial qualities of the cultural movement for children through the introduction process of the term ‘children’ and school education. Children is a term that appeared in the modern age. The appearance of ‘children’ was the sign that a new modern subject was born, and school education and child literature has developed into the social systen for children. These two things are related to colonial theory because they were imitated from Japanese advanced system. Considering the political and social background, it is certain that modern school and tale are closely related with each other. This shows that more attention should be paid to the cultural movement for children, which has been ignored on account of colonial theory. Before the appearance of the term children, the tern ‘boys’ had been used. However this term was expelled by the new term ‘children’ because of the physical environment of country loving and enlightenment period and its uncertain range. The term ‘children’ became generalized very rapidly because of the rise of entering school rate and the active term users. Therefore, children, who had been treated part of adults, became the object with pure mind necessary to protect. As a result, school education has been fortified to protect children from temptations of the real world.
