ABSTRACT

This study reviews consciousness of the writer and creation techniques in 'Sokgwandonggok' by reviewing it in itself. Firstly, Cho Woo-in has suggested two kinds of consciousness of a writer in 'Sokgwandonggok'; intentional concealedness and differentiation from the previous work. 'Sokgwandonggok' has been written not during the his travel but in his later years. In other words, the writer has written this work by counting on his memories. Although his travel in the Gwandong district was a public business instead of private trip, his relationship with the former King Kwanghaegun who assigned the public business on the writer has resulted in intentional concealedness. In addition, Cho Woo-in has differentiated 'Sokgwandonggok' from the previous work by putting forward the places he has never been. These two strategies were successful and received favorable reviews from the writers of the day. Secondly, the creation techniques that Cho Woo-in has reflected his consciousness as a writer on his work are summarized into compression and specialization. He has expressed intentional concealedness with the compression method and specialized Naeguemgang in his work. Cho Woo-in has specialized Naeguemgang composed of 'Baekcheondong, Birobong, and Goorongyeon' which was not mentioned by Jeong Cheol in 'Gwandongbyeolgok'. For that reason, he boasts this part with a word '夸語'. This consciousness of the writer has been expressed not only in the lyrics but also in comparison with three Chinese poems he wrote. The specialization of Naegeumgang is resulted from his affection for Mt. Geumgang as well as for all natural landscapes.
