ABSTRACT

This study aims at exploring the arguments for women's education in scientific journals, and these theories were affected in textbooks for education during modern enlightenment time. I gathered 82 arguments of women's education in journals, and 4 texts for the course of moral culture and reading. The arguments contained home education, childhood education and women's education. In this time, many arguments asserted that women's role was 'good wife and wise', but these opinions were based on theorists of civilization and nationalism, which was modern thinking ant that time.. The contents of textbooks such as CHODEUNGYEOHAKDOKBON(초등여학독본), NYEOJASOHAKSUSINSEO(녀자소학수신서) and NYEOJADOKBON (녀ㅈ독본) were not modern books, because the contents were affected by traditional women's education. This tendency led to a limitation of feminism in this time.
