<Donginsiwha> by Seo Geo-Jung has a huge historical significance in poetic history. Because it is the first anthology and a highly influential book on poetic criticism in Choseon dynasty. In addition to <Donginsiwha> succeeded to the poetry criticism of Koryo Dynasty, and influenced the later books on poetic criticism like <Sowhasipyong>, that is to say, it acted as mediators between the literary criticism of the Koryo Dynasty and Choseon dynasty. Seo Geo-Jung was the influential writer who represent the 15C. It is <Donginsiwha> that shows his view and ability to look at poetry. This book has many contents which could not be treated in <Pahanjip> and <Bohanjip>; Not only anecdotes and study of poets involved in Lee Saek, Jeong Mong-Ju, Lee Sungin, Kim Ku-Yong Jeong Do-Jeon, Lee Jon-O, Lee Chum but also their poems. In this thesis, characteristics of poetry criticism of <Donginsiwha> are as follows; ① poetical rhetoric and emphasis on poetic words ② Yongsa(用事), the use of past events which inclues Jumwha(點化), chiseling in poetic terms ③ poetics based on Gi ④ criticism on dignity of poetry. ① and ② are main characteristics of poetry criticism of Seo Geo-Jung, which had not been treated in the Koryo Dynasty. ③ and ④ are succeeded to the poetry criticism of <Bohanjip> by Choi Ja. Thus <Donginsiwha> played both roles of successor to tradition of criticism and the leader of new trend. Compared with the middle and late Choseon dynasty, the criticism in the early Choseon dynasty had not shown exceptional critics and books on poetic criticism bur for <Donginsiwha>, <Yongjaechongwha>. Much to our regret, <Yongjaechongwha> is not pure book on poetic criticism. So <Donginsiwha> is the best textbook showing views and ability to look at poetry of the poets in the early Choseon dynasty. Viewed at this angle, <Donginsiwha> is the valuable book on poetic criticism in the early Choseon dynasty and has a great historical significance in Korean traditional literary history having a great effect on the late anthologies such as <Sowhasipyong> and so on.
