ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to understand the core content and composition of ‘Sangchun-gok’. In the meantime, ‘Sangchun-gok’ has been focused on discussing various issues related to a problem of artists. In other words, it has been biased toward its historical character rather than a work itself. In addition, this study aims to lead this biased interest into a work. The content of ‘Sangchun-gok’ is largely composed of two elements: Sangchun(appreciation of spring scenery) and life. But the core content converges and comes down to life indeed. On the other hand, Sangchun plays a role in explaining and embodying the content of this life. This is a result of the concept of life, which is arranged at the beginning and the end of a work, that is, the life-Sangchun-life narrative composition. The content of the life section is Beaknyeonheangrak(lifelong enjoyment) where old people love and enjoy the arts. Sangchun section is narrowed down to Hanjungjinmi(true enjoyment in relaxation). The two contents form semantically a relationship of the two sides. The content and form are good evidence to show that it is reasonable to interpret the conclusion phrase of ‘Sangchun-gok’ as the meaning of satisfaction rather than resignation. Eventually ‘Sangchun-gok’ is a work that paid attention to the life of the narrator. It is a work aiming at Anbinnakdo(being content amid poverty and taking pleasure in acting in an honest way), which is in contrast to the secular world’s honor and wealth, and this is also composed to prove this life for itself.
