An utilization plan of a picture book in Korean education

ABSTRACT

Proper language education should be made by considering the contexts of special situations. In order to figure out the contents precisely, it requires to understand why they tell about such a story and whom and how they tell about it. Therefore, illustrated books can be interesting instruments for class regardless of basic, intermediate, and advanced levels in Korean Language, and the contents and illustrations of illustrated books can be sufficiently used for oral discussions for learners. In addition, the most easily approaching literature genre to the whole language approach is an illustrated book. Accordingly, in this article, firstly, the methods to use illustrated book as literature education in Korean Language education are discussed. Second, considering use of illustrated books considerably in education of English as second language for adults, the opinion that there is no reason to exclude illustrated books in Korean Language literature education, is emphasized. Third, availability to learn aspects of linguistic functions used integratedly in daily life with translated illustrated books are shown in five methods: making vocabulary branches, adopting vocabularies, hiding part, using illustrated books without letters, and using picture books with cause and effect.
