AB - The core of the dubbing in the romances of Chrétien de Troyes consisted more in the conferment of arms than in the accolade. His last work(The Story of the Grail) written in the years 1180 revealed a change from the dubbing charged with the material and secular element to the dubbing charged with the ritual, symbolic and religious one. Therefore it can be thought that his romances reflected a process in which knights came into the closed caste at the turn of the century undergoing the political, social, economical, cultural and military transformations.
