ABSTRACT

In the flow of historical research on World War I, the weight occupied by French historian Jean-Jacques Becker is very significant. Except that the interwar period’s study of World War I history, characterized by the domination of political history, was dominated by several scholars, including Pierre Renouvin, Becker’s name has continued to appear in the historiography of World War I over the three subsequent periods. Jean-Jacques Becker, who is recognized as a pioneer in rethinking the history of World War I and has an international reputation, presented a thorough vision for World War I, which is the foundation of the 20th century, through his research. Becker devoted most of his work to this war study, and was also involved in the work of French political history and left-wing analysis. His research has brought an innovative approach that considers people’s experiences, not just looking at diplomatic and military events.
