AB - This Study aims at identifying the spatial concentrations and linkage properties of industrial clusters in the Chungbuk Region using a three-step hybrid approach, which is formulated by combining the cluster index, Getis-Ord’s Gi*, and qualitative input-output analysis. The results of the study indicate that the two industrial clusters receiving significant policy concern in Chungbuk Province, i.e. IT and Bio-industrial clusters, seem to still be in a stage of emerging. In addition, the level of regional extension of the functional linkages between clusters is shown to be very weak, together with the scant formation of clusters of individual industrial sectors in the northern and southern parts of Chungbuk Province. These findings suggest that required are the proper regional economic policies catered to the salient properties of the extant industrial clusters in the region.
