The semiotic analysis of dance-theater 「Mrs. Dommy」 Sung-hee MinPh. D. Student Pusan National UniversityLecturer Department of Dance, Gyeong-hee UniversityThis study analyzes a dance specific field and a narrative field as the subject of semiotic analysis in the dance-theater 「Mrs. Dommy」 choreographed by Song Beom.As a analysis methodology, first, it should be to divide and analyze the paradigmatic factor of dance as binary-opposition. It makes clear meta-language illustrated from denotative meaning and connotative meaning. Second, there is an analysis of narrative structure in dance through chronical binary-opposition with the introduction of Great Syntagma Theory, semiotic methodology in other genre, cinema. In the multilateral analysis of semiotics, dance-theater 「Mrs Dommy」is forming a binary opposition, good and evil not only in paradigmatic factor of dance but also in narrative Great Syntagma structure, and is dealing with the problem of love and power through this structure. In the dance-theater 「Mrs. Dommy」, this Great Syntagma interpretation is the effective semiotic way to draw the whole meaning in the syntagma above the simple comparison of the paradigmatic factor. Therefore, it will shows that this analysis of the semiotic access can be applied as a effective analysis method of the dance performance text.
