A Study on the Concept and the Meaning of Lecture Performance in Dance

ABSTRACT

In the form of lecture, lecture performances have been currently conducted in various ways. The genre started by Jerome Bel and Xavier le Roy and was just introduced to Korean audiences. And then the domestic productions is now interested by Korean National Contemporary Dance Company. Therefore, from recent studies about a new concept, postdrama theater, which is evolutionary theoretical background of lecture performance is studied. In addition, reviewing its development as not documentary but performativity, speech act in dance is defined in a fresh way. As a performance revealing substantiality rather than fiction as well as truth and reality rather than virtuality and illusion, lecture performance is discussed. Through the performances produced in Korea, features and artistic values of lecture performance are evaluated. Finally, the recent trends of contemporary dance are studied and ability to analyzing works are prepared.
