ABSTRACT

Dancing has now come to the fourth industrial revolution era where the ‘data about man and object is collected and utilized’. Increase of experimental art work of modern artists has created arts that cannot be included in previous category of art, and ‘interdisciplinary art’ has become an essential concept in contemporary art. E.A.T.(Experiments in Arts and Technology) founded in New York is a leading example of such experimental art work. Thus, this study aims to contemplate on history and characteristics of E.A.T., the interdisciplinary art group that pioneered the fusion of art and scientific technology, and analyze the art works of Merce Cunningham, Steve Paxton and Trisha Brown, the dancers who actively engaged in E.A.T. Through this, this study will be able to suggest the future direction for improvement by facing the past and present of art of dancing within the genre of interdisciplinary art.
