ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to derive the characteristics of traditional dances performed today, focusing on the traditional dances performances of the Yeongnam Dance Festival, and to point outproblems and suggest improvements measures. The summary of results is as follows. First, the repertoire is concentrated on cultural assets or kibang-related events. This provides a partialintroduction and understanding of the category of our dance, and narrows the horizon of creation andtheory. Second, there are many variations in traditional dance with different styles. This makes it unclear whatthe basic framework of transmission is, what are the typical types and the individual transformation. Third, the created work is included in traditional dance. As a result, recently created works aresometimes mistaken for traditional ones. Fourth, the emphasis on everyday gestures attracts attention in that it highlights gestures, which are thecore drivers of traditional dance transmission.
