ABSTRACT

This study examines 257 domestic ballet monographs published between 1962 and March 2026, combining bibliographic analysis, title keyword frequency analysis, and written interviews with three publishers to trace how ballet has been produced and consumed as knowledge. Chapter II offers a quantitative overview of publication trends by period, genre, translation ratio, and publisher, showing marked expansion since the 2010s in the essay, practical/hobby, and children's genres. Building on these findings, Chapter III identifies five interrelated discursive shifts: de-professionalization of authorship as amateur practitioners become writers; de-linearization of narrative from chronological history to thematic structures; hybridization of genre across humanities, science, and literature; "childification" of readership through the reproduction—and occasional contestation—of gendered cultural codes; and the persistent non-standardization of Korean ballet terminology. Together, these findings show that ballet in Korea has moved beyond professional performance discourse into a plural, actively reconstructed field of everyday cultural meaning.
