AB - This article deals with Lu Xun’s consistent and poignant criticism of Zhuangzi as one of the main components of the national character. Regarding Lu Xun as a case study, I try to examine how Chinese intellectuals have seriously, systematically, and rigorously accepted or attacked Zhuangzi’s philosophy and how their interpretations reflect their political and cultural positions defined by different historical periods
