ABSTRACT

The thesis has corroborated two pseudonyms of Wang Zengqi: Ximen yu and Fang Baichen, and compared the eight lost writings with the relevant texts of Wang Zengqi in the way of textual mutual proof. It has discovered three tendencies in his 1940s works: realistic novel rebuilt the imagination of bloom and home, the prosaic novel about grass, tree, insect and fish fused the refined interests of classic literati and the scattered affections of his lonely bloom, and enfant novel of puerility, naughtiness and warmth with banter and childishness. There was a kind of elegant indulgence breath saturating in them, thereby novelist Wang Zengqi has made the Peking clique and the Shanghai clique be reconciled in a way.
