ABSTRACT

This paper intends to examine the characteristics and identities of the literature of female writers of Manchukuo era. To create context for that, this study starts with analysis of the lives and social perceptions of female characters appearing in the literature of female writers in Manchukuo, and continues to explore the literary identity of the creative activities of those Manchukuo female writers. In that context, this paper finally examines how the discovery of the tragic daily life of women described by them creates a rift in the prevailing research trend that looks Manchukuo literature with 'anti-Japanese or pro-Japanese' perspective, and discusses various cultural meaning which are inherent in Manchukuo female literature.
