ABSTRACT

This study examined how topography and soil moisture influence plant species diversityin Sorokdo Island’s vegetation communities. Fifty-two plots were surveyed, and RDA, regression, and GAM analyses were conducted to identify key determinants. Species composition was clearlystructured along topographic and moisture gradients. Slope negatively affected diversity, while soilmoisture showed a positive effect. Although GAM detected some nonlinear responses, its predictivepower was similar to the linear model. Overall, vegetation diversity was mainly explained by linear topographic–moisture gradients. Thus, Sorokdo Island’s ecosystem demonstrates a predictable environmental gradient despite itsmicrotopographic complexity.
