ABSTRACT

This research is a study on Jeong Hae-Jeong's lyrics <Minnongga>, written in 1884. <Minnongga> was first introduced to the academic world in 1980. However, a regular research on the work has not been tried yet. Here, this paper explained the creation background and literary characteristic of <Minnongga> through detailed examination of it. Chapter 1 mentioned this research purpose and goal. Chapter 2 investigated the creation background of <Minnongga>. That is, Writer Jeong Hae-Jeong's life, the period background where he lived and his creation motive. Jeong Hae-Jeong is a person who lived at the foot of Mudeungsan mountain in Honam, during the late Joseon, who wrote this work by reflecting the special social situation of that time, in the period environment of the late 19th century, which represents port open and enlightenment. Also, in chapter 3, the researcher explained subject consciousness and literary characteristic through detailed content analysis of <Minnongga>. Content analysis was proceeded by dividing the whole work into four paragraphs, and the researcher determined that two subject consciousnesses were connoted in <Minnongga>. As the result, the researcher insisted that <Minnongga> was not mere a farm encouragement lyrics, but a reality criticism lyrics which resisted unreasonable social conditions and the people's difficult livelihood of that time. Also, as a type of farmers' song lyrics, the researcher considered that <Minnongga> has the characteristic and significance. Lastly, the researcher summarized the content and result of the research. Also, the researcher suggested investigation of transformation of late Joseon farmers' song lyrics, which <Minnongga> implies a clue, as a remaining subject.
