ABSTRACT

Despite <Myeonangjeongga> and <Sungsanbyeolgok> sharing the presence aspects of as the nature poetry, the point of the literary achievement is different. In relation with the place called ‘Damyang’, there are differences in meaning and its experience. In both works, ‘Damyang’ is, where it carries a specific life experience, where it has Sungye[dwelling place of Taoist hermit]-beautiful natural place, where it was loved as a ideal place for the reclusive life by Honam Sarim[a group of Confucian scholars in Honam region], where itreaches to the spiritual realm of being person and nature as one, so it was consistent with the location of the sense can be completed to pursue the stability and true peace by harmony and coalescence. In particular, the works reflect a spatiality of a specific era(16th century, period of a massacre of scholars), a specific area(Damyang) and a particular group(Honam Sarim), In two works, there is a difference at the meaning of ‘Damyang’. ‘Damyang’ of <Myeonangjeongga> which had been created in Song soon’s later years(70s) was a hometown of Song soon, and it also was a ‘nature’ that had reached the end of many years of experience and life of depth. On the other hand, ‘Damyang’ of <Sungsanbyeolgok> which had been created in Song gang’s mid and later-20s embodied his exile experience, nomadic pain and experiences and concerns in his youth. ‘Damyang’ was the ‘hometown’ where the place had welcomed Song gang and had been grown him up. But the place, at once, was ‘a strange place’ where he had visited with a fundamental flaw and settled in the end of his father’s frustration and wandering. Therefore, ‘Damyang’ of <Myeonangjeongga> was the natural world of absolute harmony. And it embodied a placeness of philosophical view, breadth of mind, self-esteem and true peace. In the other hand, ‘Damyang’ of <Sungsanbyeolgok> embodied a placeness of the conflict and temporary settlement between the reality and ideal through the feeling of satisfaction which is the place is the ideal location. But Song gang had not fundamentally settled the conflict and anguish from the propitiousness of the times, generosity of the people and incidents despite he had stayed in the nature of beautiful ‘Damyang’. As a resting place of worth attached by Song soon, ‘Damyang’ of <Myeonangjeongga> is a quiet center where he could feel the safety and love and a devotional place where he could reach to true peace with pride, calmness and emotional stability: without absurdity, anxiety, antipathy and anger. ‘Damyang’ of <Sungsanbyeolgok> is the subject of longing and admiration to an ideal land and reclusiveness as a resting place of stability, growth and recovery of self-identity. Also, ‘Damyang’ is a propping place that embodied interest and craving for some unsatisfied reality; inhered youth of anxiety and desire, conflict rippling among the beauty; planned to settle temporarily while had not fully immersed and assimilated with the nature. Because of Young age and lack of experience, there were always existed regret, anxiety and apprehension in <Sungsanbyeolgok> unlike the <Myeonangjeongga> showing absolute harmony.
