ABSTRACT

This study set out to analyze the nature of Kim Yak-ryeon's Duamyukga and examine its genealogical status in the history of six-stanza Sijo works based on the analysis results. Kim's Duamyukga is in the basic six-stanza form and can be divided into the former and latter three stanzas according to the content. The main content of the former three stanzas is his complaint to himself. Reflecting on his life over 60 years, he laments no achievement of his own. The main content of the latter three stanzas is his advice to his children. He asks his children not to rely on their youth so much and commit themselves to good deeds. Kim's Duamyukga is the last of six-stanza Sijo works created in Yeongju within the cultural zone of Andong. Since it was created in the cultural zone of Andong, one may estimate that its genealogical position will be in the line of Lee Hwang's Dosansipigok. The study, however, found that it was closer to the line of Choi Hak-ryeong's Sokmunsanyukga. It was also found that it had the most common features with Lee Jung-gyeong's Eobubyeolgok, a work in the line of Sokmunsanyukga created in the middle 17th century before it.
