ABSTRACT

This paper is a comprehensive comparison of Chinese Ci and Korean Shijo, which have a strong comparability as one of the main poetic carriers of ancient China and Korea. Occupying no orthodox literary status, Ci and Shijo are called the "remainder of poetry", which also highlights their typological value and comparative possibility. In addition, Ci and Shijo are originated in the folk. Liu Yong and other famous poets, who were familiar with the living of working class people, used a lot of vernacular language. Later, an innovation was advocated by Su Shi and others, but the non- orthodox heterogeneous elements of Ci and Shijo are still vigorous. Therefore, Ci and Shijo save the vulgar features which are rare in other forms of the poetry.
