ABSTRACT

This study analysed Chinese poetry written by Song Deok-Bong(1521, in the 16th reign year of King Jungjong and the 11th reign year of King Seonjo) and Kim Samouidang (1769, the 45th reign year of King Youngjo and 23th reign year of King Sunjo) giving a focus on their life styles and literature-oriented consciousness. Song Deok-Bong had very progressive way of thinking even though she lived in the 16th century. She obeyed to the Confucian regulations to be free in life. She used everyday life and families as poetic materials and followed the Confucian regulations in writing poetry. She expressed her feeling in simplicity and courtesy as a noble woman. Kim Samouidang is a representative poet in the late Joseon period. she delicately expressed her feeling and longing honestly in poetry beyond the Confucian regulations required at that time. She worked as a farmer in spite of her status as a wife of high official, but she had a bright perspective and positive attitude towards her life. As for marital relations, Song Deok Bong had an equitable relationship with her husband and recognized him independently. However, Samouidang recognized her husband as a relative being. Her poetry was always oriented to her husband. In particular, as she expressed affection between husband and wife actively beyond the Confucian regulations, its literary value is considered high. In accordance with whether they accepted or deviated from the Confucian regulations, they selected different materials and expressed them differently.
