AB - This paper is written in order to research for the principle of Hamheo’s composing Seon poetry in 『The Diamond Sutra explained by three experts』. Hamheo used four kinds of the principle of composing Seon poetry in『The Diamond Sutra explained by three experts』: The principle of imagery, the principle of conceptualization, the principle of paraphrasing, the principle of reversing when writing Seon poetry about 『The Diamond Sutra』 and Yabu(冶父)’s Seon poetry, Jongkyeong(宗鏡)’s Seon poetry. So this is consisted of two big themes: The principle of imagery and conceptualization, The principle of paraphrasing and reversing. Firstly, in the relationship between the principle of imagery and conceptualization, Hamheo wrote conceptualization Seon poetry about imagery Seon poetry and conceptualization Seon poetry, and he wrote imagery Seon poetry about imagery Seon poetry and conceptualization Seon poetry. So there are four kinds of case, for example, the conceptualization Seon poetry to imagery Seon poetry, the conceptualization Seon poetry to conceptualization Seon poetry, the imagery Seon poetry to imagery Seon poetry, the imagery Seon poetry to conceptualization Seon poetry. Hamheo’s conceptualization Seon poetry was functioning to make readers understand object works and Hamheo’s imagery Seon poetry was functioning to make readers experience sudden enlightenment. Secondly, in the relationship between the principle of paraphrasing and reversing, Hamheo was paraphrasing object works in order to give more understanding and he wrote reversing Seon poetry about object works in order to represent the whole meaning of Dharma. These four kinds of the principle of his composing Seon poetry wielded strong influence to later Seon poetry developing. Although my having researched for the principle of Hamheo’s composing Seon poetry in 『The Diamond Sutra explained by three experts』 in two aspects, there can be the other subjects to study about these kinds of theme. I will continue researching the other kinds of theme being related with this contents soon.
