ABSTRACT

The public opinions on Bak Yeop are extremely contradicting. While the power succeeding in the Injo restoration severely criticized him as the ‘greedy officer who did nothing but tyranny’, those out of official circle talked up him as the ‘competent leader died on a false charge even in spite of his ability enough to overcome national disaster.’ Even he was compared to the Great Wall of China. The former opinion was caused by the excessive derogation in the process to justify the Injo restoration and the latter opinion was formed and slightly exaggerated him in accordance with wonder, discontent and denial on the Injo restoration. This study focused on the daily life and inner world of Bak Yeop as the individual existence around his poems without considering his political movement and evaluation on him in the history. In accordance with the analysis, this study found out that he was so exhausted as moving around and taking the government posts in borders in the northwestern region. Moreover, the gentle wave inside him as parting from others was identified. He also showed the letdown as watching the towns damaged by wars. The movement of unconsciousness as if giving up as feeling the aura of death was hidden in his poetic words. The turbulence of spirit which never let down in front of death or imagination of death also overflew in his works. All of them demonstrated the diverse aspects of Bak Yeop, the active individual existence living for 54 years, who couldn’t be evaluated only by the political viewpoint.
