ABSTRACT

This paper is to observe Hwang Hyun’s poetry, and investigate the characteristics of Saga’s Joint Sentences which are included in “Jib-Ryeon”. “Jib-Ryeon’ contained a lot of Joint Sentences of Chinese poets and Korean poets. Especially Hwang Hyun mentioned Saga in “Jib-Ryeon”s prefaced when he revealed the direction of learning poetry. This article is to elaborate on how Hwang Hyun taught students through Saga’s Joint Sentences. Hwang Hyun did not reject to imitated other people's methods of writing poetry but still continued to innovate. He pursued the charm of painting in poetry, which is one of the Characteristics of ‘Sinun’. He also found poetry materials around his life and describe it realistically. This article observes how the above attitude to poetry reflects on the Saga’s Joint Sentences. The result is Hwang Hyun paid attention to the Saga’s poems in the “Hangaekgunyounjib”, and emphasized the immanent technique of expression like ‘Singi’. Also Hwang Hyun tried to express the picturesque aesthetic feeling and real description of rural reality by comparing and reconciling colors in order to build new artistic conception. In this way, the characteristics of Saga’s Joint Sentences were projected on Hwang Hyun’s tendency towards poetry. We can see, Hwang Hyun always looked at study with a critical attitude. Therefore, what Hwang Hyun wants to teach to beginners is to learn poetry with a critical attitude, through the study of Saga research. This is the image of the educator he presented to us. This kind of research can be another topic in his poetry education research.
