ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the inserted poetry(Siga) within Jo Woong-jeon and examines its functional roles within the narrative. By virtue of their generic characteristics, these poems serve as devices that deepen thematic resonance; they reveal the characters' internal emotions while delineating interpersonal conflicts and the narrative's emotional trajectory. Consequently, the inserted Siga transcend mere emotional expression, playing a vital role in shaping the work’s structural and thematic framework. The study first explores the organized structure of Jo Woong-jeon, demonstrating how the placement of Siga influences the formation of narrative flow. Chapter 3 then analyzes the mechanisms of narrative development based on these identified patterns. This discussion moves beyond the simple coexistence of genres to reveal the tension generated by lyrical utterances within narrative discourse. Grounded in archetypal criticism, this analysis demonstrates that Siga function as symbolic devices expressing the speaker’s unconscious mind. Ultimately, these inserted poems are identified as performative devices that drive narrative transformation and solidify the narrative's emotional architecture.
