AB - The purpose of this article is to explore the theological meaning of the firstborn son, Israel in Ex 4:22 with a canonical approach and to grasp how it is established. Its origin is to be found in Genesis, after Exodus it has been explained in detail. After the arrival of the Mount of Sinai of israelites they were participated in a program, which was an established process of the right of the firstborn son. Here it is in detail explained in a long time which conditions is needed to be a right firstborn son. It is its concrete process. At first its origin is examined. And its process is analysed in three parts. Above all, the priestship of the firstborn son is treated in Exodus and Leviticus, which explain about the post of priest that they must keep. Secondly, their representative post is written in Numbers and Deuteronomy. The result of analysis shows that the way of the firstborn son is not easy. Deuteronomy says why God has chosen them as a firstborn son of the various peoples in the world. Thirdly, their right of inheritance is accounted on the basis of covenant of their great fathers(Abraham, Issac, Jacob). It is the right which they inherited the land and laws that God made a promise to their fathers. Theologically the concept of the firstborn son, Israel, shows that he is not simply a country in a world, involves the meaning for all of the world. Its concrete expression is that: "you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." It is well summarized in the three rights above mentioned. It is consequently found in this article that the firstborn son is a critical concept to present the identity of Israel.
