ABSTRACT

This study seeks to renew scholarly interest in Papyrus 967(P967), which has historically received limited attention in academic discourse. By comparing P967 with the Masoretic Text(MT), this research aims to analyze the theological differences in their respective proclamations of salvation, with a particular focus on the role of the Spirit of God(rûaḥ). The study begins with a comprehensive review of the research history on P967, followed by a textual-comparative methodology that enables a detailed literary analysis of both P967 and MT to examine their theological distinctions. The findings indicate that P967 frames salvation within an eschatological context, where its portrayal is somewhat ambiguous and primarily centered on physical restoration. In contrast, the MT emphasizes salvation as an internal transformation, with the Spirit of God playing a crucial role in the restoration and re-creation of Israel. This study makes two significant contributions. First, it provides a systematic and comprehensive review of the underdeveloped research on P967, reevaluating its academic significance. Second, through a comparison with the MT, it offers an in-depth exploration of how theological diversity is reflected in the development of these biblical texts, particularly emphasizing the centrality of the Spirit of God in the process of salvation and restoration.
