ABSTRACT

In this paper, the stories of the ten concubines were combined into one narrative and their personalities were portrayed, allowing us to focus on their appearances. Through the process of combining their stories into one narrative, we were able to clearly show how they were used and abandoned by David and Absalom. And through the personalization, we revealed that the ten concubines were thoroughly used as a means and were left as dehumanized beings who were trapped and abandoned by David without recovering their dishonor and damage. And through the cross-textual reading with the stories of Michal and Tamar, we revealed that one of David’s characteristics was his way of instrumentalizing, isolating, and dehumanizing women. David clearly shows that he has a male-centered and patriarchal way of thinking that does not feel a problem with using and abandoning women in his relationships with female characters. The narrator mentioned the tragic appearances of women in order to reveal that David was seriously at fault for making them like this. Therefore, we showed that the story of the ten concubines is a fulfillment of Nathan’s prophecy of judgment on David’s wrongdoings and that it is a text that should not be passed over as God’s judgment that He will surely fulfill. Rather, David's indifference and unfair treatment of the women who were harmed by him show that David was a person who lost God's justice and love. Also, through this criticism, the speaker implies that God's interest lies in justice and love for the weak and the marginalized, and I think this is the basis for us to interpret the Bible from the perspective of women and the weak.
