Comparative Analysis on Basic Adjectives of Korean, Chinese and Japanese

ABSTRACT

This paper is about basic adjectives of Korean, Chinese andJapanese(KCJ.). KCJ constitute the East Asian cultural sphere that have beenusing the Chinese characters. It suggests that there are many commons inthese three languages. In this paper, we compared the basic adjectives list ofKCJ that was extracted from certified language test such as TOPIC, HSK andJLPT. The results of this study are as follows: First, there was a lot of differencein part-of-speech classification. It suggests that perspective for understandingthe situation depends on the language. Second, Although about 50% of the listwas matched, the difference was seen in usage of the matchedvocabularies-even in the use of fundamental physical concepts such as“large-small”, “high-low”. Third, there are many mismatched vocabularies in thelist not only the words related to social relations but also the expressions aboutthe taste.
