AB - This paper studies the view of content and structural characteristics in LiBai’s Poetry of ‘Huaigu’, which has two methods of narrations. One method is looking back on the history related to historical relics when he visited them. The remainder is recalling history in his mind. The largest share of his Huaigu is describing the meaninglessness of life while historical relics remained as they were. There is also a considerable amount of Huaigu in which he missed historical figures or described those figures and related history. Even, in some poems, the poet expressed his political opinions or personal philosophy. In fact, there are many cases in Libai’s poems that he revealed his feelings or meanings in current situations. Especially, he lamented the fact that a King or political leaders could not recognize his ability even though he felt that he was fully qualified in politics or administrative works. In addition, he expressed from time to time that his wish was to contribute greatly to his government’ administration and then retire to the countryside. Also, there are cases in his poems that the world of Taoist hermit often fascinated him deeply. LiBai’s Poetry of ‘Huaigu’ includes three aspects of structural characteristics . First, he glorified historical figures back in time. In this case, he had a tendency to identify himself with the figures of his admiring. Second, he showed structural characteristics of vanishing with historical meaninglessness. Finally, there exists structural characteristics of non-being regardless of time. It is interesting that there was no distinction between the past and present. Voidness, without the time dimension or with both present and past being together, strengthened his sense of feeling which might make him be a more sensitive poet. In short, Libai was an excellent poet even in his poetry of ‘Huaigu’ where he expressed his wishes and voidness with utilizing historical figures and relics. In this way, he focused on the beauty of perpetual lasting emotions and admiring.
