AB - With the case of Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Company which was made in 1899, this paper analyzes the shaping and changes of Typical Danwei System, focusing the relationship between State and Enterprise from 1949 to 1978. Northeast China was the core region of Typical Danwei System where large State Owned Enterprises had a lot of workers, huge socioeconomic assets, and strong political power, belonged to central government, and often occupied superior position to local governments. So “strong state vs weak society” formula which could be found everywhere in socialist era did not applied to Northeast area, where, in contrast, made the structure of “strong enterprise vs weak (local) states”. Using the case of Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Company, this paper seek to find the realties of Typical Danwei System in Northeast region to raise the needs to research the Chinese socialism as “substance and institutions”.
