ABSTRACT

Choi Nam-seon spent four years in Manchukuo (滿洲國). He served as a professor at the Jianguo University (建國大學) in Manchukuo. Choi Nam-seon was a very influential writer and scholar in Korea, but had few publications during his stay in Manchukuo. According to available information, Choi Nam-seon only published “Travels to Chen Shan” (千山遊記) and three other articles during that period. Because “Travels of Chen Shan” was discovered in 2007, it is not present in “The Complete Works of Choi Nam-seon,” however it still has its place in Choi Nam-son’s travels. Choi Nam-seon took field survey and overseas travel as important means of conducting his research. As one part of his research, “Travels of Chen Shan” also had important academic value. This paper will takes “Song Mak Yeon Woon Rok (松漠燕雲錄)” and other travel notes as the reference to study Choi Nam-seon’s experience and understanding of Manchu.
