ABSTRACT

Though economic cooperation between Korea-Northeast China difficultfaces difficulties today, Korea needs to continuously strengthen economic exchange with Northeast China—particularly in regards to national strategies sustain shared political, economic, historical, and cultural values The Korean government’s expanding consensus when it comes to economic cooperation in the region with the Eurasian Initiative and the New Northern Policy (NNP) and the creation of a framework for policy consultation with China are valuable foundations in the two country’s relationship. However, the NNP has produced few tangible and monetary business results, which has led to its weakening salience as a useful policy measure, as was the case with the New Southern Policy. It is thus necessary to design Korea’s strategic countermeasures considering future development plans in Northeast China. This proactive stance beckons a need to advance discussions on Korea’s role in the Northeast China’s 14th Five-Year Plan 2021- 2025. Korea’s participation in carrying out practical projects with Northeast China’s NNP can serve as a valuable partnership for future economic cooperation between the two countries.
