AB - The Manchuria Temporaiy Provincial Committee (MTPC) was established in 1927. The name was changed to Manchuria Provincial Committee (MPC) in 1928 and was finally dissolved by the Comintern in 1936. MPC activities of anti Japanese imperialism and anti Manzhou Government in Manchuria coincide with the beginning of the Manzhou Government over its thirteen year history.
This paper analyses the social memory of the Manzhou Government based on MPC member oral ac counts and original records from that time. Detailed information was drawn from three main sources: 1) original historical material from the Central Archives and the Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang Provincial Archives, 2) memories collected by the Chinese Government of Manzhou Government mem bers and 3) unpublished transcripts of MPC member interviews conducted during the 1950s and 1960s by Chinese scholars.
This paper analyses the sources to ascertain their opinion of the Manzhou Government and their rea sons for having formulated such opinion. This paper can conclude that the image of the Manzhou Government as a puppet regime was not just a result of being a product of the time as present day historians reproduce similar images from social memory.
