ABSTRACT

According to the policy for “Building e-Korea Vision 2006”of Korean government, investment of information systems during the past decade is dramatically increasing. More than a half of this investment is develop on hardware infrastructure. So, accurate hardware sizing are essential for higher efficiency of investment. Accurate hardware sizing benefits are generally viewed in terms of the avoidance of excess equipment and lost opportunity cost caused by not being able to support business needs. Unfortunately, however, little research effort to make the hardware sizing methodology is made. We propose a hardware sizing method for information systems in public sector. This methodology is determined by empirical study that includes conducting questionnaire, analyzing results and interviewing experts. Finally we propose a computational method for hardware components that include CPU, memory, System and data disk according to the application system types that include OLTP, Web and WAS. Our study certainly will act as a catalyst for higher investment-efficiency of the future information systems in public sector.
