ABSTRACT

This paper has utilized click-stream data and survey data for the members of IT Human Network Service to analyze the formation and characteristics of social relationships in the cyberspace. LSDV regression analyses of 231 dyads predicting similarity of choosing personal media friends revealed the following findings. Choice of personal media friends between two people became more similar with increasing similarity of their position in the online social network, shared experience of cyber-community membership, and similar click patterns. The results suggest some business implications for personal media service providers and raises the question of proper sampling for Internet data.
