ABSTRACT

It is clear that the conflict between science and Christianity hinders the development of culture and learning. The conflict began at 17th century, but there was an attempt to reconcile science to Christianity by the medium of philosophy, rationalism. Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz amended mechanism in their own way, and re-established the general view which could embrace both science and Christianity. They accomplished the task by means of modifying the concept of the God. Nowadays, however, it seems that science and Christianity are not willing to communicate each other, while neither of them tends to accept their identity. As in the 17th century, philosophy should mediate science and Christianity. In order to do fulfil this requirement, scientists and Christians ought to rule out scientism and literalism, respectively. In consequence, philosophy can offer the view of world which science can exist compatibly with Christianity.
