ABSTRACT

This study explores how anger reaches 'composure' based on the viewpoint of ‘embodied mind’. Anger is usually expressed as ‘an outburst of anger’ or ‘liquid or gas boiling hard in the container’ metaphorically. Paradoxically speaking, the dynamics of anger can be the motive for personal and social renovation, but sometimes it works as catastrophic energy out of control. Through this study, I suggest to think anger relationally by connecting to composure. Thinking of anger includes introspection of the whole process from the cause of emotion generation to conversion of anger to creative energy. This study suggests two things. First, anger is ‘embodied emotion’, second, ‘composure’ is not the final step of stable emotion given by a certain result, but an aspect of state found in a serial process of mind. These two arguments say that composure is what the anger burst out is newly converted through emotional and cognitive process in the layer of ‘embodied emotion’. Eventually, thinking of anger requires exploration of the origin of agony.
