Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the level of EBP competence consisting of knowledge, attitude, and skills, and related factors with EBP competence for the faculty members working in community health nursing. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional was done with 42 faculty members using a self-administered questionnaire including demographic characteristics, EBP-related training/education, and the modified-Korean version of competence in EBP with 25 items from December 1, 2014 to March 2, 2015. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Student’s t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Results: The mean scores of knowledge, attitude, and skills were 3.98, 4.14, and 4.01 on a five point scale, respectively. And, participants who have experienced in teaching EBP showed higher in knowledge in EBP than others (t=-2.38, p=0.022). Conclusions: This study indicates that Korean faculty members working in community health nursing have a positive attitude toward EBP but they do not rate their knowledge in EBP as positively. Only experience of teaching EBP is related with the knowledge in EBP. Therefore, an educational program needs to be developed, offering knowledge and developing necessary skills to promote EBP for faculty members. Further studies using larger sample size are required to increase the representativeness and generalizability of the study results.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the objects of emotional labor according to clinical nurses’ work department. Methods: This study used a descriptive and retrospective design with secondary data analysis. Primary data were collected from April to May in 2015, 187 nurses who working at five university hospitals located in B and Y city. The degree of emotional labor was measured with visual analogue scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Tukey and Games-Howell examination with the SPSS statistics 23.0 program. Results: The objects of clinical nurses’ emotional labor varied according to their work department. In the case of general word, which were included patient, family, doctor. In the case of intensive care unit, which were included patient, family, doctor, and fellow nurse. Emergency room nurses had the most diverse objects of emotional labor such as patient, family, doctor, other department nurse, 119 emergency medical technician, and policeman. The objects of emotional labor of operating room nurses were doctor and fellow nurse. Conclusion: In order to manage clinical nurses’ emotional labor there is a need to develop a variety of strategies based on the objects of emotional labor according to nurses’ work department

Purpose: This study assessed smoking-cessation stages of change using the Precaution Adoption Process Model (PAPM) and identified smoking cessation-related factors. Methods: Using a cross-sectional descriptive study, a convenience sample of 216 male construction workers answered a self-administered questionnaire including demographics, the Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale, and questions on the smoking-cessation stages of change through the PAPM. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test, Fisher‘s exact test, and logistic regression. Results: The distribution of the PAPM stages of change in smoking-cessation was as follows: 9.7% unengaged, 32.4% engaged and deciding to quit smoking, 1.9% deciding not to quit smoking, 16.7% deciding to quit smoking, 8.3% acting, and 31.0% maintaining. The health beliefs related to smoking cessation indicated mean scores of susceptibility, seriousness, benefits, barriers, confidence, and health motivation of 2.23 ± 0.88, 3.23 ± 0.86, 3.41 ± 0.88, 2.57 ± 0.72, 3.37 ± 0.77, and 3.45 ± 0.64, respectively. The significant predictors of smoking cessation were smoking banned at home (OR = 2.61, 95% CI: 1.37-5.00), susceptibility (OR = 0.60, 95% CI: 0.40-0.89), and confidence (OR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.29-3.27). Conclusion: The findings indicated that, to increase the rate of successful smoking cessation, it is necessary to forbid smoking at home and to implement smoking-cessation programs compatible with the smoking-cessation stages of change.
