ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to explore and understand nursing students' experiences of learning flow. Methods: A total of 22 nursing students were divided into three focus groups based on their experiences of learning flow in Universities U and S respectively in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Data collected from September to November 2016 through focus group interviews were analyzed via Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology. Results: Theme clusters indicate various factors, phenomena, and results of nursing students' learning flow. These clusters were "efforts to focus on oneself", "interaction with the learning environment", "connecting interest and learning", "breakoff of awareness of oneself and surroundings", "control of learning situation", and "self-growth". Conclusion: These results indicate that the learning flow of nursing students includes interaction with the learning environment, which contributes to positive effects on the improvement of learning satisfaction and self-growth. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a self-directed learning program for them based on learner characteristics to improve nursing students' learning flow.
