AB - Hyunjin Kim. 2015. A Study of the Repeated Expressions in the discourses of the beginning, intermediate, advanced Korean Learners: focusing on the interviews with the korean native speakers. Korean Semantics, 48. The main purpose of this study is to explore the functions of repetition in discourse with the korean native speakers according to all levels of korean learners. The analysis revealed (i) that the lexical repetitions appeared the most frequently at all levels. (ii) As korean learners' language proficiency had improved, the phrasal, sentence repetitions were used more often. In order to compare the functions of repetition at all levels, self-initiated, other-initiated repetitions were divided and examined. The results showed that (i) repair, time dragging, emphasis, contrast, topic-maintenance were in the self-initiated repetitions. (ii) Time dragging was used the most frequently at the beginning level, emphasis was at the intermediate, advanced levels. (iii) Agreement, confirmation, topic-maintenance, disagreement were in the other-initiated repetitions. (iv) The function of agreement was found the most frequently at all levels.
