ABSTRACT

This paper proposes the ‘Zitronenübung’ as an educational approach to mitigating social prejudice and hatred. It explains how this activity can serve as a form of training to recognize and re-establish relationships with those who have been objectified through feelings and perceptions. Seeking educational possibilities that transcend the objectification of the Other, the study explores concrete ways to implement them. Firstly, theories of embodied learning and tentacular education are examined to propose feminist pedagogical theories regarding discrimination and difference, alongside sensory education approaches designed to overcome them. Secondly, it presents specific implementation methods, step-bystepguidelines, and situational applications for the Lemon Exercise as an effective educational strategy. Thirdly, drawing on the experience of an educator who has conducted this activity 39 times over seven years in women’s studies classrooms, the study analyses the Lemon Exercise’s effects and limitations through observations of real-life educational settings and pilot teaching sessions, as well as focus group interviews (FGIs).
