ABSTRACT

This article analyzes ‘indirect power’, which secretly influences decisions in politics, along with ‘vorraum’ (the waiting room in front of the decision maker’s room). Firstly, vorraum is analyzed as a preemptive and pre-existing interfering power that precedes sovereign decisions and provides the option itself for such decisions. It is a form of post-political power that accumulates the incidental profits of govern. Secondly. focusing on Carl Schmitt’s question of ‘who has direct access to decision making’, the union of confessor and governor in Schiller’s Don Carlos, is read into the indirect power of divine+secular. In the process, it is analyzed how such a divine+secular vorraum is stopped by the political theory/theism of the character Marquis Posa. The third part examines the process by which the actions of divine agents, or messianic fossa, function as a force to restore directness in the political. In the process, I analyze another indirect body of divine+secular power (a compromise between the Grand Inquisitor and the King) that built a vorraum in front of God while suppressing such messianic power in advance. Finally, as a Schmittian basis for expressing the ambivalence of such a deterrent’s power (Katechon), the motto ‘homo homini homo’ is presented in relation to the conditions of true decision.
