KIAS-BUFS(Korea Institute for ASEAN Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies) was established in 1997 at Busan University of Foreign Studies, South Korea. Since its inauguration, it has contribute to the advancement of Southeast Asian Studies in South Korea through diverse research that cover ASEAN Studies, Thai Studies, Vietnamese Studies, Philippine Studies, Malay-Indonesian Studies, Burmese Studies, Cambodian Studies, and Lao Studies.

 

It aims to unearth various and distinguished aspects of Southeast Asia, and improve the field of Southeast Asian studies by circulating knowledge among scholars and the general public who are interested in Southeast Asia. In line with the aim, it also attempts to develop alternative methodologies for contemporary Southeast Asian Studies.

 

In addition to the publication of the journal, KIAS-BUFS holds international conferences and diverse seminars, and offers postgraduate programs (MA & Ph.D.) in Area Studies in partnership with the Institute of Iberoamerican Studies(www.lakis.or.kr) and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies(www.ims.or.kr), Busan University for Foreign Studies.
